Catch the early morning flight to Bagan arriving at about 0800 hrs and from there cross the Irrawaddy river with a ferry to begin the journey to the Chin Hills. Travel is by a jeep, most of the time on dust roads and with many river crossings. In the evening arrive at a Chin town called Mindat situated at 4860 ft. Overnight is in a bungalow with basic but comfortable accommodation. The surroundings of Mindat is semi-cultivated land with some areas of pine forest. Weather is cool and pleasant all year round.
After breakfast start trekking and firstly descending back to 2500 ft. After crossing the Che river walk gradually up until we reach Aye Sakan a camp situated at about 5700 ft where we overnight. The walking is through pine forest at first but before and after crossing the Che river, the walk is through deciduous forest with large areas of cultivation. After reaching 4000 ft we again walk through pine forest with areas of cultivated land, secondary scrub and grass.
Most of the time the walking is uphill until the next camp site is reached at about 9000 ft where spring water is available. Along the way in lower elevations the walking is in secondary vegetation with patches of semi-cultivated areas and pine forest. The forest above 7000 ft is a pristine broadleaf evergreen forest with patches of small bamboo. The weather up there is very cold and one needs warm clothing and sleeping bags. Sleeping is in tents.
Climb to the summit of Mount Victoria in the morning and then walk down to a camp situated at about 8000 ft taking a different route. Overnight in a wooden bungalow. Forest type above 9000 ft is mostly oaks and rhododendrons with some grasslands.
From the camp we walk down to another Chin town called Kanpetlet situated at 4560 ft where our transport is waiting. Enjoy the evening with a locally-brewed KHAUNG YAY, a wine made from millet. Overnight in a bungalow with basic facilities.
Drive back from Kanpetlet to Seikphyu, a town with a ferry crossing. The other side of the Irrawaddy river is Chauk only 18 miles away from Bagan, Overnight in Bagan.
